From Mapping to Sensing in the Anthropocene at Earthrising 2024 at The Irish Museum of Modern Art is an investigation into the complexities of our rapidly changing world and our varied governance of it.
Sculptural elements of recycled aluminium cable that once moved power from wind farms converse with concrete blocks. These concrete blocks hold fragments of images from abandoned gravel pits of delicate flowers that grow between the stones and rocks on the barest of ground, they die and are reborn in the ebb and flow of time. This year’s summer beacons are now gone but are immortalised on concrete blocks, blocks that are themselves constructs of geological time. A concrete reminder of a fleeting moment. The cyclical nature of the subject, image, and object is brought into play. There are also 4 audio files erupting from the space, this sonic element is an attempt to help bring forth the ghost of nature, to seek and explore the vibrations of life that we continually shelter from in our capitalist existence. The hope is that we can retune ourselves to the natural world.

Fragments of images from summer research in an abandoned/ post human gravel pit. A tranquil island in the middle of the chaos.
